TransAmerica Water PipeLine

This is an idea we were discussing in my favorite coffee shop. I found a favorable response amongst the patrons. In late May 2008 I decided to send an email to every Governor and every Senator advocating this idea. My hope is to inspire a National Discussion on this or a similar topic.

Here it is in a nutshell:

Run a TransAmerica Water Pipeline across country bringing water from the East to the West in order to stockpile water in reservoirs in the West. We are talking millions (10's of millions?) of gallons per hour? per day? (let the engineers figure this out)

The three positives that I can see for building the pipeline and associated reservoirs...
1) Benefits the American workplace/economy
2) Addresses the potential water shortage in the West due to significant population increases, provides a backup plan in case our reliance solely on the Colorado River is short sighted.
3) Transferring water PRIOR to anticipated heavy storms to reduce river levels would help to alleviate flooding and pressures on levees.

A thought about routing... we already have railroad tracks and major highways that cross the states, each of those owning adjacent lands that might be appropriate for placing a pipeline of this nature.
